The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is a fantastic initiative that works with schools across the country to keep children active. Each level of the scheme culminates in the expedition with the distance that students walk varying across the three awards - Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Whatever the distance of the expedition, having the right kit is paramount for being warm and comfortable. Here at Montagne Sports, we will be able to help you get exactly what you need in order for you to be warm and comfortable on your expedition, and most importantly, to enjoy it.

There are a number of things that you will need for your Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. Tents and cooking equipment are obvious ones to mention but these are normally stocked by the schools. To go out and buy yourself, these four items are definite essentials, and you can find all of them in store or on our website now.

1.Sleeping Bag

To keep warm and comfortable at night and easy to carry in your bag during the walk, there is nothing better than a sleeping bag, and there is no better than a Snugpak sleeping bag. Used by the British Armed Forces, their whole range are incredible warm and comfortable and easy to pack back in its bag. Bare essentials for the British Armed Forces, brought to the general public.

2.Waterproof Jacket

Forgetting something as simple as a small, lightweight waterproof jacket can be the sole reason for having a terrible experience on your expedition. The Mac in a Sac Packaway jacket is a perfect solution for needing a small lightweight waterproof jacket. Easy to pack away, waterproof and windproof, taped seams and coming in a range of colours, the Mac in a Sac Packaway Jacket will be your best friend on your expedition.

It seems like such a simple item of clothing to take with you on your expeditions but a nice woollen fleece is without a doubt a bare essential. Warm and breathable, a Craghoppers fleece will make you expedition that much more comfortable and bearable.

4.Walking Boots

Again, this seems like such an obvious item to suggest but there is a big difference between have a pair of walking boots and having a high quality pair of walking boots. Walking for a few days straight can put real strain on your feet so having a pair of warm, comfortable and waterproof boots is certainly an essential. Grisport’s range of leather walking boots are the perfect choice then for your expedition.
